What should I rent?

Rental counters usually sort gear into a few tiers. This is what those tiers mean, so you can ask for the right one.

First time or beginner

Ask for the beginner or "sport" package. Softer, shorter skis or a softer board, set up to turn easily and forgive mistakes. Boots will feel roomier than an expert's. This is the right choice for your first few days even if you are athletic.

All-mountain

The default for most intermediate and advanced renters, and what "performance" or "premium" usually means. One ski or board that handles groomed runs, a bit of chop and the odd soft patch. If you are unsure, this is the safe pick.

Powder & off-piste

Wider underfoot, often longer, so it floats rather than sinking. Worth asking for after real snowfall or if you plan to ski trees and bowls. Less precise on hard groomers, so it is a poor single choice for an icy week.

Park

Twin-tip skis or a true twin board, usually shorter and softer, set up to ride and land switch. Ask specifically: many shops keep a small park fleet separate from the main rental wall.

Not sure on length? Use the size calculator. We don't list what any individual shop has in stock, so call ahead if you need a specific category.
